Review:
I held off on reading this for a long time. I’m nearly done the complete works now and decided not to put it off any longer. This is because:
- I can’t stand Catholics or Christians and
- I fucking hate priests more than I hate rats.
But I was wrong in putting this one off for so long. There is a reason that this is one of Cather’s most recognized and best loved novels.
This is a tale of the American frontier. Imagine Louis L’Amour meets Willa Cather, but without the gunfights and rustlers. It is also a tale that follows the relentless march of civilization into and past the dwindling frontier. And this novel is a thing of beauty. Cather at her finest, most mature height.
This book made me want to: punch a priest
