In this video, I explain why one comic in a slab has a blue label (Sheena, Queen of the Jungle) and another has a green label (Jungle Tales). Scroll down below the video for a bonus description of another label colour: purple, for restored comics.
I mention this briefly in the video – there’s another grade of slabbed comic – the restored comic. In this case, restored means that something has been done to fix the appearance of the comic. Here, it means (quoting the text itself):
Restoration includes: color touch on cover, staples replaced. BOTTOM & RIGHT EDGE TRIMMED.
Why restore? Well, it’s a personal preference, I guess. Not something I’d do, but it can make the comic look sharper, which might be what a collector is looking for.
The keen eyes among you might notice that there’s another, unrelated bit of text under that that reads: FROM THE COLLECTION OF ERIC GROVES. Why is that important? Well, certain collections are noteworthy (who wouldn’t want to own part of Jerry Garcia’s collection??) and if the comic in question was previously owned by someone noteworthy, it can add value and cachet to the collector.
