Review:
One of the last “best known” books by Cather. So now I can say I have read all of her most recognized books.
Beautifully written, like all her novels. Now where is the however pivot?
However. <– there it is!
Nothing happens throughout the novel. I mean, people live and grow old and have kids and families. But there is no conflict, no quest, no struggle against an enemy. It’s a bit like if Lord of the Rings never got out of the Shire. Sometimes you need a Sauron just to keep things moving.
Descriptions of the prairie were glorious, as always.
This book made me want to: get high under the prairie sky
