Review:

Post operative I really needed this. I was reading a collection of Ray Bradbury’s short fiction and bailed on it. Not that I don’t love Bradbury but I needed a novel to identify with the characters, to feel and see the scenery from a different time and place. To take me out of myself and my own private world full of pain and sickness and anxiety. And this really did that for me.

The novel follows the waxing and waning of fortune on Captain and Mrs. Forrester, along with several other characters who are woven throughout the lives of the Forresters.

Glorious descriptions of the land before and during the railroads’ push westward and gracious living thousands of miles from the metropolises of Europe.

This book made me want to: get well
