Review:

This was excellent. A long tour through the whole of human history, from Australopithecus to the smart phone.

Fully illustrated throughout with photos and diagrams on every beautiful page. The timeline runs through the entire volume but every few pages there is a deep dive on a particular area of interest, like life in ancient Egypt or the rise of Russia, or what it was like growing up in classical Rome.

Always informative, never pedantic, this book filled in a lot of gaps in my history knowledge and will be easy to refer to in the future thanks to the timeline.

This was not a novel, so it was not something I would pick up and read for an hour straight. Rather, I would read a few pages (a few centuries) two or three times a day. That way the information has a chance to sink in and I can recall it now with greater ease than if I had raced through it.

A superb book and a welcome addition to my history library.

This book made me want to: Read more history.
