Review:
This was my very first experience reading Margaret Atwood. There’s a reason she won the Booker Prize for this. Prose is elegant and shit-filthy by turns.
I love reading Canadian books because I can identify with the places, the seasons, the attitudes.
The point of these reviews is to provide a critique, for whomever reads these journals after I shuffle off this mortal coil. So I do have some criticisms:
You can tell this was written by a woman. The men in it are women with moustaches. Some of the things the men do are things men don’t do, or perhaps they are things men do as imagined by a woman. Not a big deal, but still.
It went on too long. As a result the last part feels rushed to me. Like tidying up quickly before the store closes.
This book made me want to: go to more fin de siècle parties
